In 2023 I enrolled at Georgia state university to study criminal justice. I dreamed of becoming a crime scene investigator and egerly researched the American justice system. Whenever I mentioned my area of studies, I notice a number of people I met would scoff at the idea of a fair justice system and I heard tales of how people would be convicted of simple victimelss crimes that ruined their whole lives. It seems to me that every crime, no matter how big or small, becomes a life sentence because as soon as its on record it becomes a sort of "mark of cain" that stunts any effort towards one's self-improvement
In 2024 I was accepted into the step ahead scholar's program where I learned that I could do something about it. I decided to design and start a program that works with ex-convicts not just to offer them a dead-end job that will give them to get by but give them the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
The end of one's sentence should be the end of their punishment.
